چکیده

Although mosaics are well established as a compact and nonredundant representation of image sequences, their application still suffers from restrictions of the camera motion or has to deal with parallax errors. We present an approach that allows construction of mosaics from arbitrary motion of a head-mounted camera pair. As there are no parallax errors when creating mosaics from planar objects, our approach first decomposes the scene into planar sub-scenes from stereo vision and creates a mosaic for each plane individually. The power of the presented mosaicing technique is evaluated in an office scenario, including the analysis of the parallax error.

Parallel-Perspective Stereo Mosaics

In this paper we present a novel method for automatically and efficiently generating stereoscopic mosaics by seamless registration of optical data collected by a video camera mounted on an airborne platform that undergoes dominant translational motion. There are four critical points discussed in this paper: 1) Using a parallel-perspective representation, a pair of geometrically registered stere...

Theory and Practice in Making Seamless Stereo Mosaics from Airborne Video

In this paper we present a novel method for automatically and efficiently generating stereoscopic mosaics by registration of optical data collected by a video camera mounted on an airborne platform that mainly undergoes translating motion. The resultant mosaics are seamless and will exhibit correct three-dimensional (3D) views. The basic idea is to fast construct stereo mosaics before 3D recove...

Error Characteristics of Parallel-Perspective Stereo Mosaics

This paper analyzes different aspects of the error characteristics of parallel-perspective stereo mosaics generated from an airborne video camera moving through a complex three-dimensional scene. First, we show that theoretically a stereo pair of parallelperspective mosaics is a good representation for an extended scene, and the adaptive baseline inherent to the geometry permits depth accuracy ...

Dynamic Pushbroom Stereo Mosaics for Moving Target Extraction

Our goal is to rapidly acquire panoramic mosaicing maps with information of all 3D (moving) targets as a light aerial vehicle with a video camera fights over an unknown area. Parallel-perspective pushbroom stereo mosaics approach has been proven to be an effective method to stabilize image sequences and to obtain better 3D reconstruction results than using interframe motion stereo. In this pape...

Content-Based 3D Mosaics for Dynamic Urban Scenes

We propose a content-based 3D mosaic (CB3M) representation for long video sequences of 3D and dynamic scenes captured by a camera on a mobile platform. The motion of the camera has a dominant direction of motion (as on an airplane or ground vehicle), but 6 DOF motion is allowed. In the first step, a set of parallel-perspective (pushbroom) mosaics with varying viewing directions is generated to ...
